Damion Suomi Releases New Album & New Dates For SpringP is for Panda — By HopelessMelissa on March 24, 2009
Indie-folk troubadour Damion Suomi (sue-me) hits the road this Spring in support of the release of self-titled debut album. Out March 24th on the pioneering indie label P Is For Panda, Alternative Press hailed the release as “…folksy, full-band rock.” His 19 city trek kicks off on March 19th in Dallas, TX and finds Suomi playing in major US markets including New York City and Chicago as well as a special performance at the Annual SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX, where he will perform with artists including Josh Moore and Val Emmich as part of the TWLOHA/Give More Love Showcase series on Friday, March 20th. Joining him on the road will be DC-based singer/songwriter Andy Zipf and each night, the duo will bring listeners a healthy dose of songs filled with a mix of hope and despair – the kind that sink in and stick with you.
“…Suomi crafts elegant, drink-fueled lamentations and explosive, mid-tempo rockers with one ear cocked toward the dusty world of alternative country and the other bent toward the Irish tradition.”
-All Music Guide
Suomi’s self-titled debut was produced by Matt Malpass (Relient K, Copeland, Lydia) and recorded at his Marigolds + Monsters studio in Atlanta, GA. Featuring 10 tracks, the album has Andy Lee (ex-Cartel, Right Away Great Captain!) contributing his musical talents on drums, guitar and pedal steel along with the warm guest vocals of Brittany Painter (of Alabama-based band The Bridges) on “One More Time.” Damion explains that, “These songs were birthed from pubs, drinks, and relationships,” and the result is an album that is rooted in Irish culture and bar-drunk poetry.
