Maika Maile of There for Tomorrow turns to music to help deal with the difficult memories of childhood tragedy.

“Thank you mtvU and Half Of Us for incorporating There For Tomorrow and I into their efforts against detrimental human issues. Over the latest half of my life, I’ve come across a vast array of inquisitions regarding who I am and why I do what I do. I believe my past is the largest indication of what I involve myself with at given times. There are never intentions of exalting any sort of mystique with the way I reveal myself, people have just found me to be a mystery. This may help you solve it.”

Nearly all mental health issues can be improved with proper treatment. When we decrease the stigma around mental health and encourage students to seek help if they need it, we are changing and saving lives.

Through Half of Us, mtvU and The Jed Foundation want to initiate a public dialogue to raise awareness about the prevalence of mental health issues and connect students to the appropriate resources to get help. In planning for the campaign, mtvU conducted extensive research on how stress and depression are affecting young people nationwide.

Anarbor released their debut Hopeless Records EP, Free Your Mind on March 10. Crafted in Los Angeles by producer Mike Green (Paramore, Good Charlotte) over a four-week span in Los Angeles, Free Your Mind’s formation came from a desire to break out from the “fad band” chokehold and delve into what was real.

Anarbor is currently on the 2009 Sub City Take Action Tour, Presented by FYE. The 2009 lineup features headliner Cute Is What We Aim For, along with Breathe Carolina, Meg & Dia, and Every Avenue. The annual nationwide charity tour, now in its eighth year, raises funds and awareness for youth involvement in charitable action.

For the first time ever, mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, is fusing movies and music together to launch the “mtvU Movies and Music Festival,” a three-city Festival featuring the hottest performers and most buzzed about movies leading up to the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Headliners Fall Out Boy with special guests Cobra Starship, All Time Low, Metro Station, and Hey Monday are partnering with mtvU and MTV to make the Festival part of Fall Out Boy’s “Believers Never Die Part Deux Tour,” which is sponsored by mtvU / MTV Presents. Fans attending the “mtvU Movies and Music Festival” will get exclusive, advance looks at trailers for this summer’s hottest blockbuster movies and opportunities to win tickets to the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.

Fall Out Boy, who rocked the 2008 MTV TRL Finale, will take the spotlight as the Festival headliner performing hit tracks including “America’s Suitehearts” and “I Don’t Care” from their latest album, “Folie à Deux.” Cobra Starship, 2008 mtvU Campus Invasion performers will also take the stage alongside All Time Low, a 2008 mtvU Woodie Awards “Breaking Woodie” nominee, the 2008 VMA TOUR performers Metro Station, and the infectious emo-pop band Hey Monday. You can catch performances from the Festival on mtvU beginning May 11th and on MTV airwaves during the weeks of May 18th and May 25th.

“We’re psyched to have MTV involved with the “Believers Never Die Part Deux Tour,”’ said Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. “It gives the fans something else to look forward to when they come to the show.”

“mtvU has always been a breeding ground for great music. We’ve been playing Fall Out Boy on mtvU since they first broke out on the scene,” said Chris McCarthy, Vice President of Marketing for mtvU. “The mtvU Movies and Music Festival is just another way for us to bring the best musical performances direct to our audience. And, this time we get to mash it up with advance looks into the biggest films people are buzzing about.”

The “mtvU Movies and Music Festival” will hit the following cities this spring:

4/21 – Miami/Boca Raton- Mizner Park Amphitheatre
4/25 – Baltimore/DC- Meriweather Post Pavilion
5/1 – Philadelphia-Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing

The Festival will feature a number of mtvU, MTV and sponsor related activities, with attendees taking home some awesome swag and, potentially, the ULTIMATE prize- tickets to the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. For more information or to grab Festival tickets, check out www.MoviesandMusic.mtvU.com.

mtvU/MTV Presents is also the exclusive media sponsor of “Believers Never Die Part Deux Tour,” which will feature stops in over 25 cities. For more information and the full tour schedule, head to www.tours.mtvu.com.

It’s been a stellar year for Hopeless recording artists THERE FOR TOMORROW and Wednesday night’s win for the “Breaking Woodie Award” for Best Emerging Artist at the 2008 mtvU Woodie Awards is the perfect way to cap it all off. Voted on and chosen by fans, the impressive distinction was given to the Orlando, FL-based band for their video to “No More Room To Breathe” over other nominees including All Time Low (“Poppin’”), We the Kings (“Check Yes Juliet”), Lykke Li (“Little Bit”), and Tyga (“Aim”).

Still hanging tough in the Top Five Most Streamed Videos on mtvU.com (it’s #2 this week!), “No More Room To Breathe” is just a taste for the what the band has in store in their seven song EP. Already with sales of 10k and still selling strong, the EP has generated tons of positive press for its perfect blend of rock, pop and punk that’s drenched with a massive dose of melodic hooks. Among the many believers have been AbsolutePunk (“… a skilled band with mountains of potential”), AMP (“… as huge as you’d expect”), and Billboard (“… a perfect mix of neo-rock, indie pop, and punk, the group demands attention”).

There For Tomorrow just wrapped up their Fall tour with Anberlin just last week and are catching their breath at home in Florida before jetting off for a swing of the East Coast in December (dates below). They will begin recording the follow-up to their self-titled EP in early 2009 with James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Underoath, Paramore) returning to producer’s chair. It is slated for release on Hopeless Records in late Spring 2009.

mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, today announced that college favorites Santogold, Vampire Weekend, Lykke Li and All Time Low will take the stage for a night of unforgettable live performances at the 2008 “mtvU Woodie Awards” – the definitive college music awards. All four are nominated for Woodie Awards this year, as voting continues on mtvU.com/woodies.

Additionally, mtvU announced KSSU (Sacramento State University); WICB (Ithaca College); WEGL (Auburn University); and WGRE (DePauw University) progressed today to the final round of voting as they battle to be named Best Campus Radio Station. The winning radio station brings home a chunk of wood for their campus. Five college bands were named as finalists for the “Best Music on Campus Woodie Award,” each vying for a chance to be declared best college band in America.

The only awards to honor the music voted best by the college audience, the 2008 “mtvU Woodie Awards” will take place on November 12, 2008 at Roseland Ballroom in New York City and premiere on-air November 19, 2008 at 8pm ET on mtvU, mtvU.com and in high definition on Palladia. MTV, MTV2 and MTV News will also broadcast highlights from the musical performance-packed show.

A culmination of emerging artists hoisted to the forefront by college students, this year’s acts represent the best up-and-coming music celebrated by college fans across the country. Santogold returns to the “Woodie Awards” this year as a “Woodie of the Year” nominee, having surprised the crowd last year with a guest appearance alongside Spank Rock in the 2007 “mtvU Woodie Awards.” Philly-based artist Santogold quickly caught the attention of college fans and mtvU with her new-wave, hybrid sound. Vampire Weekend, a New York quartet, emerged from Columbia University with a self-produced first album and songs like “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” that continue to generate buzz. mtvU has broadcast all of Vampire Weekend’s music videos since premiering “Mansard Roof.” Newcomer Lykke Li, nominated for a “Breaking Woodie,” was recently named one of mtvU’s “Freshman Five,” a semi-annual list of emerging artists poised to break-through to mainstream acclaim. Both of her videos, “Little Bit” and “I’m Good, I’m Gone” are currently buzzing on the college music scene and on mtvU. Fresh off their killer performances headlining mtvU’s 2008 VMA Tour, “Breaking Woodie” nominee All Time Low will also perform. mtvU first premiered the Baltimore band’s “Six Feet Under the Stars” video in September 2007.

Acting as vanguards of emerging music, four college stations including KSSU, Sacramento State University; WICB, Ithaca College; WEGL, Auburn University; and WGRE, DePauw University; moved on to the final round of competition in hopes of bringing home the inaugural Best Campus Radio Station Woodie Award. Lauded for championing artists before they achieve mainstream success, these student-run radio stations were first chosen based off accolades from CMJ College Radio Awards, Princeton Review Nominations, and independent questionnaires completed by a cross-section of record labels. After four weeks of voting, college students have hoisted these musical pioneers into the final round of battle, with final voting beginning today.

For the second year in a row, mtvU is teaming up with www.bestmusiconcampus.com to recognize the student artists who resonate most with their peers nationwide. Today, mtvU announced the top five artists or groups that will have a shot at taking home the “Best Music on Campus Woodie,” capturing a $5,000 cash prize and air-time on mtvU. Voting continues online through the end of the week to determine the top two acts that will perform on-stage at the “Woodie Awards.”

Powered by college students from across the country, the fifth annual “mtvU Woodie Awards” will feature students in front of the camera and behind the scenes, as they present, introduce and honor their favorite music and artists. The “mtvU Woodie Awards” have a legacy of tapping into artists before they hit mainstream. Acting as a catalyst for the top emerging artists, college students established the “mtvU Woodie Awards” as a crystal ball for the industry, propelling some of their favorite acts to new heights – including surging record sales, headlining tours and accolades at other award shows such as the MTV Video Music Awards. Since the first “mtvU Woodie Awards,” artists such as Fall Out Boy (Streaming Woodie ’04), the Killers (Breaking Woodie ’04), Death Cab for Cutie (Best Video Woodie ’05), Plain White Ts (Breaking Woodie ’06), Boys Like Girls (Breaking Woodie ’07) and Gym Class Heroes (Woodie of the Year ’07) catapulted to new heights after winning big at the Woodies.

Voting is open through November 7, 2008 online at http://www.woodies.mtvu.com. The fifth-annual “mtvU Woodie Awards” are brought to you by Army ROTC, Garnier Fructis, and CitiCard.

In what’s predicted to be the closest competition in the five-year history of the “mtvU Woodie Awards,” MTV’s 24-hour college network, mtvU, today announced the 30 nominees for the definitive college music awards. Nominated by college students across the country, the artists selected forsake traditional benchmarks of Gold and Platinum in their quest for a 10-pound chunk of pure wood, symbolizing their connection to college students and new music fans everywhere.

Battling it out for the coveted “Breaking Woodie” category, this year’s emerging artists poised to dominate the college scene include All Time Low, We the Kings, There for Tomorrow, Lykke Li, and Tyga. Breakthrough nominees in other categories include Cool Kids, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Tokyo Police Club, Santogold, Adele, The Ting Tings, No Age and Atmosphere.

Voting begins today at www.woodies.mtvu.com and runs through November 7, 2008. In 2007, 5 million students voted to determine which artists brought home a Woodie Award. This year, fans can also campaign for their favorite artists by posting voting modules to their blogs and social networking pages.

On November 12, 2008 at 8pm ET, the nominees and scores of fans will take over the Roseland Ballroom in New York City for a live concert event, packed with musical performances, where winners will be announced. Previous performers include Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Lupe Fiasco, Gym Class Heroes, The Academy Is, Imogen Heap and more.

The show will air on November 19th at 8pm ET on mtvU, mtvU.com and will be simulcast in high definition for the first time on Palladia. MTV, MTV2 and MTV News will also show love for Woodies nominees, airing sneak peeks and highlights of the show.

The “mtvU Woodie Awards” have a legacy of tapping into artists before they hit mainstream. Acting as a catalyst for the top emerging artists, college students established the “mtvU Woodie Awards” in 2004 as a crystal ball for the industry, propelling some of their favorite acts to new heights – including surging record sales, headlining tours and accolades at other award shows such as the MTV Video Music Awards.

This year, two breakthrough Woodie nominees include Santogold and the music video “It Had to Be You” for Motion City Soundtrack. Santogold, now a college favorite, broke through following her surprise guest performance at the 2007 mtvU Woodie Awards, with Spank Rock. Motion City Soundtrack’s creative “It Had to be You” music video was directed by Texas A &M student filmmaker Lauren Simpson as part of mtvU’s series “Breaking the Video” at http://www.bestfilmoncampus.com.

Best Campus Radio Station and Best Campus Band in America

For the first time ever, mtvU is honoring 20 pioneering college campus radio stations committed to bringing students the latest indie and emerging music. Lauded for championing artists before they achieve mainstream success, these student-run radio stations represent the new music vanguard long since abandoned by traditional FM radio. The top stations were chosen based off accolades from CMJ College Radio Awards, Princeton Review Nominations, and independent questionnaires completed by a cross-section of record labels. One station will bring home the inaugural Woodie for Best Campus Radio Station, as voted on by their peers.

For the second year in a row, mtvU is teaming up with www.bestmusiconcampus.com to recognize the student artists who resonate most with their peers nationwide. Voting is open to all college artists who are currently registered on bestmusiconcampus.com. Of the eligible nominees, one artist or group will take home the “Best Music on Campus Woodie,” capturing a $5,000 cash prize, and will be featured on mtvU.

Powered by college students from across the country, the fifth annual “mtvU Woodie Awards” will feature students in front of the camera and behind the scenes, as they present, introduce and honor their favorite music and artists.
