The recently completed ninth annual Take Action Tour just wrapped up with one last triumphant hurrah in Dallas on March 2, 2010. The tour, whose mission is to create a better world, continues to inspire and make change in a proactive manner.

The Impact of the 2010 Take Action Tour:

-Over $60,000 raised to help further the mission of Patrick Pedraja and his organization Driving For Donors

-Over 30,000 fans in 31 cities proved that the world can be made a better place

-Tour reaches goal enlisting over 2010 fans to sign up for the National Marrow Registry!

-Nearly 8,000 copies of the Take Action Volume 9 compilation sold

Headlining band We The Kings, along with Mayday Parade, A Rocket To The Moon, There For Tomorrow, Stereo Skyline, and Call The Cops united an impressive amount of fans across the U.S. and Canada that cared about more than just attending a great show. The active and engaged audience stood up to make a difference by raising funds, awareness and actual life saving donor volunteers for Driving For Donors (an organization started by now 14-year-old Patrick Pedraja who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10) whose mission is to sign up people to the National Marrow Registry.

Take Action 2010 raised over $60,000 for Patrick Padraja’s mission through the unique model of donating 10% of each ticket sold to charity, along with other fundraising efforts including donating 5% of the suggested retail price of each Take Action Volume 9 compilation sold.

Hopeless/Sub City would like to thank all the bands and labels involved this year that brought the message directly to fans that each one of us can take action and make the world a better place.

Take Action looks forward to continue to support Patrick Pedraja and Driving For Donors’ mission of saving lives and everyone at Hopeless Records & Sub City Non Profit is grateful for the opportunity to organize this tour to benefit him and be involved in such a great cause in even a small way. Hopeless Records & Sub City Non Profit is hard at work on the next Take Action Tour and will be announcing the next benefiting charity soon. All The latest information can always be found at Takeactiontour.com.

Since then they have added over 22,000 donors to the registry, saved more than 24 people’s lives with matches and raised over $100,000 for tissue typing fees and drive expenses by selling advertising on Patrick’s bald head.

About Hopeless Records & Sub City Non Profit:
In 1999 Hopeless Records formally started supporting non-profit organizations under the Sub City banner with charitable albums, tours, and events. In addition Take Action is offering fans an opportunity to personally help save a life with onsite registration for the National Marrow Registry available at every tour stop. Registration is simple and only requires the donor to be between the ages of 18 and 61, have a desire to help save a life, and have time for a quick cheek swab and simple paperwork. Registering is much easier than most people think and information about the entire process can be found at BeTheMatch.org. Those under 18 will have plenty of ways to support the cause as well, including buying a copy of the compilation, and they can learn more at each show or by visiting drivingfordonors.com.

Hopeless Records, through its non profit organization Sub City, is pleased to once again bring you the Take Action Tour. This year the tour will spotlight Patrick Pedraja and the need to get people signed up for the National Marrow Registry. Presented by Hot Topic, the tour will feature headliner WE THE KINGS, in addition to MAYDAY PARADE, A ROCKET TO THE MOON, THERE FOR TOMORROW, and STEREO SKYLINE (on select dates). The annual nationwide charity tour, now in its ninth year, raises funds and awareness for youth involvement in charitable action. The tour will kick off in Atlanta, GA on January 25th and end on March 2nd in Dallas, TX. Pre-sale tickets can be bought now at: tixx1.artistarena.com/takeactiontour.

Every year, thousands of people get life-threatening diseases like leukemia and lymphoma that can be treated with cellular therapies such as a marrow transplant. Seventy percent of patients do not have a matched donor in their family so they depend on the life saving action of people who sign up for the National Marrow Registry and it’s as easy as a cotton swab of the cheek and two simple forms.

Driving For Donors exists to draw donors, attention, and funds to this cause. The non profit organization is the brainchild of now 14-year-old Patrick Pedraja who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10. In 2007, at age 11, Patrick and his family started Driving For Donors and traveled around the country in a special “Donormobile” with the mission of signing people up for the National Marrow Registry to help find bone marrow matches for people in need of a transplant. Since then they have added over 22,000 donors to the registry, saved more than 24 people’s lives with matches and helped raise over $100,000 for tissue typing fees and drive expenses by selling advertising on Patrick’s bald head. Patrick has been honored by the United States Congress, CNN Heroes, DoSomething.org and has appeared on numerous television shows to promote this cause.

10% of the cost of each ticket sold is donated to further this cause making each person attending the Take Action Tour an active participant in making the world a better place. In addition Take Action is offering fans an opportunity to personally help save a life with onsite registration for the National
Marrow Registry available at every tour stop. Registration is simple and only requires the donor to be between the ages of 18 and 61, have a desire to help save a life, and have time for a quick cheek swab and simple paperwork. Registering is much easier than most people think and information about the entire process can be found at BeTheMatch.org. Those under 18 will have plenty of ways to support the cause as well and they can learn more at each show or by visiting drivingfordonors.com.

Presenting sponsor Hot Topic has worked with the Take Action Tour since the tour’s inception in 1999 and their commitment to helping make a positive impact continues to be as strong in 2010 as it has ever been. The music lifestyle mall retailer (hottopic.com) is a natural fit as a presenter, because they demonstrate a passion for music in everything they do. Expect to see the bands from the tour making several special appearances at local Hot Topic locations throughout the tour. Also generously supporting the 2010 tour is MySpace Music, Alternative Press Magazine, Absolutepunk.net, Hopeless Records, S-Curve Records, Atlantic Records, and Fueled By Ramen Records.

The tour’s headliners We The Kings, a MySpace Music “Introducing” artist, have been exciting fans everywhere lately with their hit song Heaven Can Wait climbing the top 40 radio chart for several weeks and their sophomore album Smile Kid very recently released on December 8th. The band describes their enthusiasm for the tour, “Not only are we really excited to be on tour with some of our best friends, we also get to support a cause that we feel strongly about. We recently had a conversation with Patrick from Driving for Donors and his enthusiasm and passion for the cause was really contagious. We want to make this year’s Take Action Tour the biggest and best it’s ever been, by making people aware and getting them registered.”

Mayday Parade is currently supporting their October major label debut Anywhere But Here. Derek Sanders, vocalist for the band, says of his band’s involvement with Take Action, “The great thing about the Take Action Tour is that it brings people together for a good cause! We’re happy to be able to use our music in a positive way, and we are excited to tour with a bunch of great bands.”

Drummer Andrew Cook of A Rocket To The Moon, who released their latest album On Your Side in October, notes, “I first discovered the Take Action Tour in the form of the Plea for Peace/Take Action tour in 2002. That night I saw The Lawrence Arms, Common Rider, The International Noise Conspiracy, Shai Hulud, Snapcase, and Thursday. It left an indelible impression on me as a musician and listener. I heard the bands talk about suicide prevention, and how important it was, and I felt like I was a part of something bigger by simply being there, like my dollar was not just going into someone’s pocket who promoted the show. I was inspired to go home and research the cause and the tour itself, and in turn stumbled upon a number of other related issues I cared about.”

Hopeless Records’ own charity-minded band, There For Tomorrow, released their debut album A Little Faster in June of this year. The band says of the tour, “We are always on the lookout for opportunities that involve a cause far outside of ourselves. We’re honored to finally be a part of valiant efforts like
those of the heroic youngin’ Pat Pedraja. There are many organizations that flatter themselves with the title “non-profit”, but it is 100% reassuring and refreshing to see the proof of his work in the 20k+ donors he has gotten to join the ranks in the fight against leukemia. We’re nothing short of ready when it comes to trekking the U.S. another time with this cause behind us. Take Action ‘10 will be a breath of fresh air for the artists/workers involved and the audiences alike. Thanks Hopeless/Sub City and all our homies that will share the stage w/ us. Let’s make a difference!”

Stereo Skyline will join the tour on February 12th and are currently in Los Angeles recording material for the band’s upcoming record.

The Take Action Tour is always comprised of the brightest up-and-coming stars of tomorrow. Previous acts involved include: The Plain White T’s, All Time Low, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Paramore, Every Time I Die, Jimmy Eat World, Avenged Sevenfold, Hawthorne Heights, Chiodos, Thrice, Anti-Flag, Silverstein, Dillinger Escape Plan, and many more.
About Hopeless Records and Sub City: Founded in 1993, Hopeless Records is a Southern California independent record label home to breakout artists All Time Low, There For Tomorrow, Anarbor, We Are The In Crowd, and many more. Throughout its 15-year history, Hopeless Records has released more than 100 albums and launched the careers of Avenged Sevenfold, Thrice, and Melee.

Hopeless Records and their non-profit organization Sub City were recently recognized at NARM’s Outstanding Achievement awards held at this year’s annual NARM convention in San Diego. This award follows up Hopeless Records’ receipt of NARM’s Small Entertainment Software Supplier of The Year Award at last year’s convention.

The 1st Annual NARM Outstanding Achievement Awards were created to recognize the new and creative ways member companies are doing business and advancing the industry while acknowledging members’ efforts to be more responsible to the greater community at large. Awards were given in the categories of Business Innovation, Marketing, Packaging, Collaboration, Green and Community.

The Community award, which Hopeless/Sub City shared with Rhino Records, is given to a NARM member company that demonstrates exceptional support of or participation in charitable, philanthropic or other non-profit organizations. Hopeless & Sub City were honored for nearly 10 years of supporting non profit organizations with charitable albums, tours, and events, through which Hopeless & Sub City have raised over 1.8 million dollars for deserving causes. Sub City recently received federal 501c3 non-profit certification and plans on continuing their efforts in raising funds and awareness for charity.

Louis Posen, Founder of Hopeless Records and the Executive Director of Sub City had this to say about the award:

“You don’t have to be Microsoft to make a difference. Martin Luther King said ‘greatness is defined by serving others…and what is so wonderful about this definition is that everyone can be great.’ We at Hopeless/Sub City believe we all have talents, skills and resources to share with others in order to better our selves and better our shared world. Although it is nice to be recognized with the NARM 2009 Community Award, we understand that the 1.8 million dollars and unmeasurable awareness raised for important charitable causes through the Sub City efforts was not accomplished alone. Our NARM friends and partner companies in retail and distribution have played a significant role in the achievements to date. We would like to share this award with all those who work with us to make a positive impact.”
About Hopeless/Sub City: Founded in 1993, Hopeless Records is a Southern California independent record label who has released over 150 albums including launching the careers of Avenged Sevenfold, Thrice, and many others and is the current home to breakout artists All Time Low, There For Tomorrow, Anarbor, and The Human Abstract amongst many others. In 1999 Hopeless Records formally started supporting non-profit organizations under the Sub City name with charitable albums, tours, and events. Now itself a registered 501c3 non profit organization, Sub City continues the mission of combining music and charity by raising funds and awareness for worthy causes. To date, Sub City has raised over 1.8 million dollars for over 50 non-profit organizations and has been recognized by the 110th US Congress and the Los Angeles City Council, among others for its contributions to its community.
About NARM: NARM is an industry trade association, is comprised of music wholesalers and retailers, online and mobile music delivery companies, record labels, multimedia suppliers and technology companies among others. (NARM.com)

“The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” – Albert Einstein

Hopeless Records and Sub City step outside the box of their day to day activities of being a business in the entertainment industry to see the larger community they serve and realizing the impact they have on their fans’ lives through music. In that spirit Sub City has hooked up with the S.T.A.K.E. (Sharing, Training, Assistance, Knowledge, and Education) Club, a dinner group of professionals who have created an outreach program, The S.T.A.K.E. Scholarship for Social Entrepreneurship. The program combines mentorship from The S.T.A.K.E. Club members and financial assistance in the social entrepreneurship programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels through Pepperdine University. The $10,000 scholarship is awarded to young individuals who have the talent but not the means in bringing their world-changing ideas into reality.

“I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to share life with the amazing human beings that make up the stake club. It’s awesome to share the passion of taking our experiences and resources to help make a better world and we couldn’t think of a more effective way to do so then to support a young person like Benjamin. It’s exciting to help plant seeds of positive possibilities.” Says Louis Posen president of Hopeless Records and Executive Director of Sub City

The recently wrapped, eighth annual 2009 Take Action! Tour came to a culmination after two months and 40 shows, with one last hurrah in Cincinnati, OH on April 1, 2009. The nationwide charity tour raises funds and awareness for youth involvement in charitable action, and for the second straight year Take Action has chosen not-for-profit organization DoSomething.org to benefit from the funds raised and to help spread the message of action to young people across the US and Canada.

2009 marks the first time the Take Action! Tour has ventured to Australia, with Hopeless Records’ own All Time Low and San Franciscan pop-punk/hardcore enthusiasts Set Your Goals leading the charge, while Melbourne quintet Stealing O’Neal will also be jumping on board as the national support. The Take Action! Tour supports and promotes the work of ReachOut.com, an Australian youth service dedicated to reducing youth suicide. From each ticket sold, Take Action! will donate 10% (excluding GST) to ReachOut.com to help them continue to provide young people with an anonymous and free support website which provides info and advice on issues like depression, bullying, wellbeing and relationships. Visit TakeActionTour.com for additional details.

The Impact of the 2009 Take Action! Tour:
• Over $40,000 raised for Do Something which helps young people make a positive difference in the world – based on 10% of ticket revenue, 5% of the retail price for each Take Action! Volume 8 Compilation CD sold and additional tour related fundraising
• Over 23,000 fans in 40 cities proved that the world can be made a better place one voice at a time
• Over 9,000 copies of the Take Action Volume 8 Compilation already sold
• Take Action Grants, empowered by f.y.e., MySpace Music, Myspace IMPACT and Hopeless/Sub City Records, will focus on Music Education or any other cause young people are passionate about. Stay tuned to find out more about the recipients

“This year’s tour exceeded our expectations. The bands were truly engaged in the cause of young people taking action. Partnering with Sub City has been a great fundraising tool for Do Something, but more importantly, it’s been a great way to spread our message of positive action to teens,”says Do Something CMO, Aria Finger

Headlining band Cute Is What We Aim For, along with Breathe Carolina, Meg & Dia, Every Avenue and Anarbor, united fans across the U.S. and Canada in support of Do Something, an organization that gives young people the opportunity to help change the world

Based on 10% of all 2009 Take Action! Tour ticket sales, 5% of the retail price for each Take Action! Volume 8 Compilation CD sold, as well as revenue from merchandise initiatives and additional tour related fundraising, Hopeless Records and the Sub City non-profit will donate over $40,000 to Do Something.org!

Hopeless Records and Sub City would like to thank all the bands and labels involved this year that brought the message directly to fans that each one of us can take action and make the world a better place. Thank you as well to Jamie Kelsall and everyone at APA for again booking an amazing tour, and thank you to Mike Cubillos and Jose Martinez at Earshot Media for their help in promoting this great cause.
